The sun will come out tomorrow.

The sun will come out tomorrow.

By Nick Pecorelli, Little Green Radicals Founder
The one thing you need in abundance if you set up a business is optimism. I am fortunate to be blessed with it and if you want proof of that I can send you my initial financial projections. How easy it would be.

I can vividly remember the first time I got a market pitch in Greenwich. It was outside. It rained and rained and rained. I got wet. I sold nothing. And I sang to myself The sun’ll come out tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya tomorrow, you’re always a day away…. Annie’s theme became mine. Often sung in times of adversity and for a few years as a way of humouring myself and the Little Green Radicals team.

Of course, the real insight from that monsoon Sunday in Greenwich was that if you want a successful children’s clothing business you need something to sell for rainy days as well as sunny ones.  But the perfect recycled plastic bottle rainwear supply chain that married together our ethics and quality standards proved elusive.

Then at last, when Bonnie, our production technician, and Josie, our brand and design director, visited an amazing rainwear factory a year ago the go ahead was given. We set to work on the final details. Things like pocket design and should we have reflectors? We decided not because it makes the product much harder to recycle. And it had to be soft brushed organic and Fairtrade cotton lining inside, not polyester.

As the samples came in, my heady expectations were surpassed. Annie’s optimism would be vindicated. And now that today has finally caught tomorrow I think we need a new theme song here at Little Green Radicals…

The rain’ll come out tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya tomorrow, you’re always a day away….
