From inspiration to reality. How our design process brings an idea to life.
By Josie Bragg, Little Green Radicals Designer
This season, I wanted to create a collection that took us on a journey through different lands. We took lots of inspiration from Nordic iconography as well as Icelandic design.
This culminated in the idea of 'Norseology, a magical adventure through nordic forests, beneath starlight nights filled with rockets with our colourful nordic friends.

We designed lots of woodland scenes for our jumpers, gloves & hats which included little bears, pine trees and autumn foliage. We choose a colour scheme of warm autumn colours and checks to keep things colourful...
Our producers then take our designs and mix the inks to match the colour palettes we've created, using screens to print them on to our organic fabrics by hand.

Can you see where the fabric has been lifted from the screen printing table, leaving a colourful residue of Nordic trees, bears and houses? We love how this looks!
Our colour palette this season was inspired by autumn leaves, lots of reds, golds and vintage greens, colours which were in abundance last November on the day when we held our photoshoot. It was a beautiful day where the kids could run free and bask in the late autumn golden sunshine.

Our golden sheep print came courtesy of my nephew requested a sheep design, combined with a 70's green and gold flowery table cloth I had stashed away. This is how the screen looks once our illustrations have been transferred onto sheets and are ready for printing.

This has been a difficult year for everyone but not least our partners in India. Each order we place with our producers has a direct impact on those who make our clothes. It keeps the tailors, printers and everyone else involved employed in good factories which provide safe and fair working conditions.
Our producers have done an absolutely wonderful job this season making fantastic quality clothes in very challenging and ever changing circumstances.
We thank them all.
